Obituary for John Thomas Jr.

John Everett Thomas, Jr. was born on April 4th, 1951 in El Paso, Texas to John Everett Thomas, Sr. and Nettie Thomas. At his home on April 19, 2021 he passed peacefully with his family by his side.

John was greeted with wide open arms by our Lord in heaven, anxiously followed by a host of loved ones, eagerly waiting their turn to embrace and welcome him home.

John Jr. gave much in his life to a great many. From his time picking up kids on a Sunday School Bus, teaching Sunday School lessons to eager Senior Citizens. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Farmington, NM for many years where he was a deacon, faithful member of the choir, and teacher for the old and young alike. Through his faithful years of service he was able to bring to many the loving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ along with the blessings a true relationship can bring.

He gave up a baseball scholarship to Kansas University to come home and marry his lifelong love, Linda Sue who has loved him dearly for 51 years since.

He then joined Local Union 412 at age 18 and has been a master plumber and contractor with that brotherhood since his retirement 5 short years ago.

Being determined to be the best he can at all things he tried, he taught himself to golf, winning the San Juan Open and having the experience to play with Lee Trevino placing 2nd in a Pro-am tournament in Mazatlan, Mexico. He coached his 4 sons in baseball giving his knowledge and love of both the game and life to his sons. Instilling strength and fortitude along with understanding of fair play, sportsmanship, and the sense of satisfaction that working hard towards your goals in life can bring.

Most of all, John was very much loved by so many. Left to miss his sunnyness and love for life is a family of many. His wife Linda Sue Thomas, sister and brother in law Norie and Wayne Guthrie. Niece Felicia Reed, Nephews Tracy and Steve Guthrie whom he loved so much. John and Linda had 4 sons, John Everett Thomas 3rd, David Cory, Jason Daniel and Richard Allen Thomas. He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and still growing.

John was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Toni Thomas, nephew Dwayne Dugger and too recently his son David Cory Thomas. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews on his wifes side that loved him and will truly miss him.

As we honor the life and mourn the loss of this great man, no longer hearing the wisdom, laughter, and love directly from his heart and mind, we commend his Spirit back to his creator, trying hard to be unselfish in our wishes to hold on to the most happy and gracious gift that it was to have this man in our lives. We love you John Everett Thomas Jr. The Lord said “welcome home my good and faithful servant”. Rest in peace Dad, and please look in on us often, as you will be missed more than words can say!
