George Robert “Bob” Goodwin, Jr. 79, of Earth, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at the Lynwood Manor Nursing Home in Levelland. His body was donated to Texas Tech Medical School in Lubbock, for Alzheimers research. No formal services will be held, and at his request, his body will be cremated following the research.His ashes will be taken to Wichita, Kans., where he was born on Aug. 23, 1937 to George Sr., and Helen Edwards Goodwin. He graduated from East High School of Wichita, Kans, and later was the oldest member of the 1989 South Plains College Class to receive an Associate degree in Electronics Technology. At SPC, he was treasurer of the Teacher-Student Board, was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity, and an honor student on the Dean’s List in 1986, and on the President’s honor list in 1987 and 1988. He and Barbara “Bobbie” Thompson Burch were married July 26, 1970, when they combined his five children and her four children into one family. Bob was a long-time resident of Earth, after he moved from Lubbock to work at the Tolk Generating Station as an ironworker. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 412 Pipefitters/Plumbers Union of New Mexico. He retired in 2009. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Goodwin of Earth; his two sons, Micheal “Mike” Goodwin of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Bill Goodwin of Lubbock; and three daughters, Jeannie Lolley, Lori Welch and Felicia Goodwin, all of Wichita, Kans.; 40+ grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jaci; and his step-children: Danny Bob Burch of Norman, Okla., Twyalia Voyles Crabb of Littlefield, Wesley Burch of Winfield, Mo., Jeffery Burch of Lubbock, and Robert Goodwin of Bledsoe.

Larry “Rex” Brasell died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday November 17, 2016 of kidney failure at the age of 72. He was born in Seagraves Texas, but considered Lubbock to be his childhood home. He moved to New Mexico to join the UA Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Albuquerque and spent 10 years as a pipefitter before running for Secretary Treasurer of the Union. He served two three-year terms and then served two terms as Business Manager. He remained a loyal member of the union to the very end. He was a committed pragmatic progressive who believed in working within the existing political system to improve people’s lives. To this end he was the founding president of New Mexico PROPAC, a progressive political action committee, that had a positive impact on New Mexico politics that endured for many years. He served on many boards and committees, both in Albuquerque and nationally for his union.

Rex met his wife Elinor Gollay after retirement. They moved to St. Petersburg FL, traveled around the world, and eventually settled in Portland OR. Shortly after he learned his kidneys were failing. Elinor gave him a kidney and the two of them were able to continue their world travels for more than six years. Even as his health was failing, he continued to be an avid reader, to follow politics, and be a loving father, friend and husband.

He leaves behind two daughters, Brenna McJimsey and Rachel Lewis, three grandsons, Rowan and Malcolm McJimsey and Jonah Lewis, all of Albuquerque and his devoted wife, Elinor Gollay in Portland, OR.

1924 – 2016 Obituary Condolences

Joe A. Garcia, 92, of Bloomfield, passed from this life Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, in Bloomfield. He was born to Manuel Garcia and Juanita Lopez-Garcia on Jan. 21, 1924, in Santa Fe. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Joe was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters L.U. 412 for 65 years. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Rose A. Garcia and son Arthur J. Garcia. He is survived by his sons, Deacon Roger Garcia (Patty) and David Garcia (Juanita); grandchildren, Arthur, Angela, Eugene, Rose, Jessica, Manuel, William; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield by Deacon Timo Lujan. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield. Burial will take place at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St. in Santa Fe. Harris, John “Greg” was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 12, 1960 and passed away in Phoenix, Arizona September 2, 2016.

Greg is survived by his mother, Jerri Carroll/Harris, father, George F. Harris and step mother BJ Harris, brother Glen Harris and his two children Joe Harris and Jennifer Kalmback, brother Brian Harris and his wife Dawn Harris, sister Lori Harris and husband Jim Smith and their children, Trey, Kristina, Austin, Jessica, and Brandon, and sister Lisa Wade and husband Buster Wade and their children Brody and Garrett.

Greg was a pipefitter and member of the Local Union 412 where they knew him as John.  Greg went to school in Los Lunas where he played football and loved bull riding.  He had many friends and a wonderful stepfamily.  Greg had a big heart and would always help others when he was able.  He loved his family and believed in

God and knew Jesus as our Savior. One of the last things Greg had posted on his Facebook was a sign with:

GOD IS AN UNDERSTANDING GOD, never be afraid to turn back to him when you feel you’ve strayed too far.

Carroll Kimble Lowe, 72, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016. He was born in El Paso, Texas on October 17, 1943.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Mary Nell Lowe and his son, Roy Masatosh Lowe. He is survived by his ex-wife, Shizuka Lowe, who cared for him for the past 10 years, his brother, Kevin David Lowe of Roswell, NM, son, Carroll K Murphy of Silver City, NM and daughter, Corinna C. Lowe of Seattle, WA.

He was an alumni of New Mexico Military Institute, a graduate of New Mexico State University with a degree in Forestry, but most of all he was a 50-year member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local Union 412 out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a pipefitter/welder he worked throughout the United States.
Carroll was very much a part of the last of a dying breed as he was a union man through and through. He never drove a foreign car and always looked for the union label. As a journeyman in his trade he took the time to teach his apprentices the values of trade unionism and solidarity. Every year he helped judge the 5th year apprenticeship contest for UA Local 412.
He was also a political activist. He was a delegate to Central New Mexico Central Labor Council and spent many hours phone banking with labor urging fellow union members to vote and vote the right way.

The brother/sisterhood will celebrate his life on October 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the UA Local 412 Union Hall located at 510 San Pedro SE, Albuquerque, NM.

Jerry Sewrook, age 67, died May 20, 2016. Jerry was born July 4, 1948 in Santa Fe, NM to Joan and Vic Sewrook. Jerry grew up in Japan, California, Texas, and Nevada. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with friends and family. His passion was taking care of animals and would often bring home stray dogs found on the side of the road. He moved his family from El Paso, TX to Chaparral, NM in 1981 to have a hobby farm taking care of many types of farm animals: cows, pigs, horses, chickens, etc. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Sewrook. Son, Vance Sewrook and grandson Chase; Daughter, Joni Milliron, son-in-law Michael Milliron and two grandsons, Jacob and Evan. Sister Bita Sewrook, Brothers Michael Anderson and Patrick Anderson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Vince Sewrook and parents: Joan Anderson and Vic Sewrook. A Committal Service will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his name to the Humane Society.
