Winfred “Wimp” Moon, 77, a resident of Silver City, New Mexico, entered eternal rest Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Elmore City, Oklahoma, to WJB Moon and Mardi Moon. He married Virginia “Gena” Moon on Dec. 1, 1961, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Wimp and Gena and their young family moved to Silver City in 1966 to help build Tyrone town site and loved the area, choosing to settle in Grant County. Wimp started Moon & Sons Welding in 1976 and operated his shop for many years. He loved fishing and hunting and had many enjoyable years teaching his sons how to hunt and fish. Wimp was active with 4-H and FFA programs in the area and a lifetime member of FFA and Elks. He enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and was a Little League coach, on the Fair Board (cooking BBQ and helped build fairgrounds), and union member of Pipefitters #412. He was a man of few words, but loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gena Moon, of the family home; three sons, David W. (Carol), Kenny W. (Kim) and Richie L. (Lori) Moon, all of Silver City; nine grandchildren, Andrea Dutton (Kade) of Midland, Texas, Tyrell Moon (Jamie) of Farmington, New Mexico, Wyatt Moon of Farmington, Cody (Ashley) of Silver City, Dillon Moon (StarrAnn) of Silver City, Brandon Oizumi (Jessi), of Las Cruces, Courtney Sanchez (Matt), of Albuquerque, and Ashley and Raelynn Moon, of Silver City; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Winnona Anderson (Homer) of Georgetown, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Tom, Claude, John, Bill, Bob, Gene and Charlie Moon, and one sister. A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels, with Andrew Housley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Grant County 4-H, 2610 N. Silver St., Silver City, NM 88061 or High Desert Humane Society, PO Box 1973 Silver City, NM 88062. Obituary for David R. Bunt

David Bunt passed away on October 8, in Lahaina, Maui, after a two year battle with cancer. He was born in Pensauken, New Jersey, where he married and had his four children, David, Jeannie, Deborah, and Dean. He moved to Albuquerque to be with his brother Joe, and became a union plumber and pipefitter for 30 years. He and his wife Linda filled their lives with work, family, and fun. Dave was an avid golfer, pool player, animal lover, and a totally irreverent jokester.

He is preceded in death by his father and his son, David, and is now enjoying highballs and 500 rummy in heaven with his mom Edie.

He adored his beloved wife Linda, and is also survived by his devoted brother Joe; brother Jim; son Dean; his daughters Jeannie and Debbie; son-in-law Richard; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his good friend Max; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He always put the sparkle on the water in the family, and will be dearly missed until we see him again.

Manuel Martinez JrManuel “Mannie” Martinez, Jr. of Espanola, NM passed away unexpectedly in Santa Fe, NM on September 13th, 2015 at the age of 75.

Manuel is survived by his daughter Liz Martinez of Espanola, NM; granddaughter Kyanna Martinez of Espanola, NM; grandson Travis Martinez and his wife Britney Martinez of Espanola, NM; & close family friend Linda Collier of Los Alamos, NM. He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline C. Martinez of Espanola, NM; mother Louisa Martinez of La Villita, NM; his sister Melina Trujillo of Chamita, NM; & brother Dennis Martinez of La Villita, NM.

Manuel was born on November 8, 1939 in La Villita, NM to parents Manuel & Luisa Martinez. He graduated from Espanola High School in 1958 and joined the Pipe Fitters Union Local 412 of New Mexico. He married Pauline Vigil, his high school sweetheart in 1959.

A wake is scheduled for Wednesday September 16th, 2015 at 7:00 PM at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday September 17th, 2015 at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church in Espanola, with a reception to follow. GILBERT VELARDE GILBERT VELARDE, life long resident of Santa Fe, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 5, 2015. He was born in Santa Fe the son of Guadalupe and Vicente Velarde. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eloy Velarde and Joe Muller. Gilbert is survived by his sister, Connie Duran (Tony); nieces, Josephine Casados (Alex), and Maria Robinson; nephews, Daniel Velarde (Cathy), Larry Velarde; all of Santa Fe; nephews Leon Duran (Sherry) of Aurora CO. and John Muller (Shirley) of Santa Fe., and many other relatives and friends; his godsons, Chris Gomez and Ian Zoltai, and very special friend, Rose Armijo. Gilbert was a member of Pipefitters Local 412, a life time member of the Santa Fe Fiesta Council, a member of the Santa Fe Rodeo Association, Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Santa Fe Lodge #460, and served as a volunteer for many organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, and Kiwanis Club. He served as a member of the New Mexico National Guard, and worked on the Alaskan Pipeline, as well as owner of Velarde Mechanical & Construction, INC. He was a loving and caring person who lit up a room with his smile, sense of humor, and laughter. He loved life and he lived it to the fullest. He has many friends and he will be dearly missed. A Rosary will be recited Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 6:30 PM at the Rosario Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, October 12, 2015 at St. Anne Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Rosario Cemetery. Jose R. Puga, 100, born on August 28, 1914 passed away on July 7, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Elena Molina Puga and son LeRoy Puga. He is survived by sons, Jose F. Puga, Edmundo Puga, and David Puga; daughters, Rose Mary Alvarado and Mary E. Concha; 27 Grandchildren, 47 Great Grandchildren, and 14 Great-Great Grandchildren. We Thank God for sharing you with us for these hundred years; for only God can make a Dad with such loving heart, who cares about his children enough to guide them from the start, believing in them always, and so proud of what we do. Ruben Beavers Jr., age 81, a resident of Hernandez, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015. Ruben was born on March 10, 1934 in Jerusalem, Arkansas. Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Florence Beavers; and 10 brothers and sisters. Ruben was a member of the Pipefitters UA local 412 for 55 years. Ruben enjoyed hunting, fishing, and carpentry. He volunteered for various projects at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. Mr. Beavers is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Johanna Beavers and their son, David Maez, Ruben is also survived by his sons, Rick, and Danny Beavers; Ruben also raised, Marty, Yvette and Genette Herrera, as if there were his own, he also helped raise a grandson, Brandon Bartnick; sister, Marie Beavers; special granddaughters, Shirley Beavers of Ventura, California and Shayla Beavers of La Mesilla; special niece Carolynn White and special nephew Larry Bevins of Morrilton, Arkansas and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Richard Patrick Rotunno born on June 10, 1937 (78) of Santa Fe was called to God on Friday, July 17, 2015 and passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Patrick was born to Angelo and Flossie Rotunno in the Agua Fria Village of Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 1944, his immediate family moved to Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 17, he joined the Armed Forces of the United States. Patrick was a self-employed jeweler, a certified code welder plumber-pipefitter with the Local 412, Johnson Control in Los Alamos, NM for 22 years, and did welding on the side. He was retired for 16½years and enjoyed every minute of it with Nena. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rolanda Sosa, Father and Mother, Angelo and Flossie Rotunno, Brothers Roland and Ronald Rotunno (surviving spouse, Judy). He is survived by Mary (Nena) Gonzales, his fiancee, Brothers, Robert (Elsey), Rudy (Hope) and Randy, Sisters Marian (deceased husband, William Dodge) and Cathy (Jules), ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and all other close relatives. David Chavez

 1955 – 2015

David Chavez, the Los Lunas Chile Farmer, went to be with his Boss, Jesus Christ, in the early morning of Wednesday, April 29, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. David was a hardworking man with a passion for farming and ranching. He took great joy in growing his tasty green chile and raising his cattle. David gave all credit to the Lord for his beautiful gardens. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delfino and Viola Torres Chavez. 

David is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 38 years, Teresa Chavez; and his four loving and caring children, Christina Vallejos (Alex), Matthew (Leandra), Greg, and Liz Autry (Kyle); his pride and joy were his grandchildren, Joseph, Charissa, Sophia, Mateo, Uriah, and Baby Kameron.

Phillip ValverdePhillip A. Valverde, Jr., age 37, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on December 15, 1976, and was a lifelong resident of Bernalillo, NM. Phillip’s hobbies included attending classic car shows and showing his 1960 El Camino, playing video games, listening to music and watching movies. He worked for Carrier Commercial Services as an HVAC Service Technician for eight years and was in the industry for 18 years where he made numerous friends.


He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Reynaldo “Cacho” Lucero. Phillip is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 16 years, Goretti Valverde; his precious daughter, Gabriella (Geeg as her daddy called her) Valverde; his loving parents, Linda and Phillip Valverde, Sr.; his sister, Lynette Andrade and husband Luis; his nieces, Raylyn and Elysia Andrade. Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Molly Lucero; paternal grandparents, Fela and Manuel Sena; his mother and father-in-law, Goretti and Ramon Aragon; brothers-in-law, Paul Aragon, Raymond Aragon and wife Raquel; special auntie, Sandra Lucero; and other numerous relatives and friends. Phillip will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched.
